Summer Time? Blog

Happy Thursday everyone.  Today I am off to meet some of my Travel Agent friends at Mall Of America to see the Diana Exhibit.  We plan to have a leisurely lunch after that.  Can't wait.
Tonight I am going to meet some of my Photo Buddies from the Minnesota Valley Photography Club for a Photo Shoot in Burnsville.  I will post some photos tomorrow if I have time.
This article is from the Light Stalker website.  It is about Night Photography which is so much fun and not hard at all once you learn the basics.  A tripod and a off camera trigger or using your camera's timer are a must.  There are some awesome night shots posted with the article too.
Here is an article about shooting sporting events.  If you are using a Point & Shoot camera turn the dial to the runner icon.  This setting works well for shooting anything that is moving as well.
Today's How I Took It Photo was taken at the Marjorie McNeely Conservatory in St. Paul, MN with my Olympus E510 SLR Camera, Maual Mode, F2.0, 1/80th of a second, ISO 100.

Here is a video showing an auction of the world's most expensive camera.  Unbelievable!
Here is a link to my Photography friend, Karen Seargeant's website.  There are some awesome shots in her galley.

Here is an article about one more thing the airlines are doing away with.  Is it better to be standing in line or sitting in a chair waiting for the families to get settled? GRRRRRR..., OK, I am done ranting & raving for now.

Here is a recipe courtesy of Whole Foods that looks really good and would be great for a summer meal.

Wednesday Already?

It is "Hump Day" already, how cool is that!  Today is still cool here in Minnesota but at least the sun is out and it is not too windy.  I am grateful for that.
Here is a great article from out friends at Picture Correct.  It will help you to understand all the different camera choices on the market right now.  It can be rather daunting trying to figure out which camera is right for you and keep you from over spending.  What made me decide to step up to an SLR Camera was the burst mode feature.  My Granddaughter, Molly, was a toddler and I could not get a picture with my Point & Shoot Camera.  I had all these shot of the back of her head because she did not stay in one spot for more than a second.  Once you get a camera that has Manual Mode, you can learn how to take all kinds of really cool pictures.  Remember you can get some really nice used cameras and save yourself lots of money.

Here is today's How I Took It Photo from our Night Shoot in St. Paul.  This was shot from Harriet Island with my Olympus E510 SLR Camera, F22, 25 second exposure, ISO 100 using a tripod and off camera tripper.

Here is a link to my Facebook Photo Buddy, Ray Janus' website.  He has real talent and a love for sailing.

Here is a slide show of some really far out resorts.  No pun intended.  The French Polynesia one is my dream.  The first one is out of the questions for me because of the entrance.  It is fun to live vicariously!

Thank you to my Facebook friend, travel writer Christopher Elliott, for posting this article about the TSA.  In my opinion the TSA needs a total makeover to make it more effective.  I talk to so many people who have needlessly been hassled by them.  I have experienced this first hand myself.

Many Thanks to Professional Photographer, Scott Berglund, for posting this quote that I am using for our Thought For The Day.

Back To Work Blog

I hope you all had a great Holiday Weekend.  Mother Nature continues to give us a weather roller coaster.  Today is cool and cloudy which I hate.  It is supposed to warm up later in the week so there is hope.
Today's How I Shot It picture was taken at the Orchid Show at the Marjorie McNeely Conservatory in 2009.  It was taken with my Olympus E500 SLR camera, F8, 1/40th of a second, ISO 100 and hand held shooting.  If I had it to do over again I would have shot it at about F4 to get a shallower depth of field.

Here is an article about using your live view screen on your camera to improve your shots.  It is good to know this runs your battery down a lot faster.   Some of the newer cameras only have live view screens so you really have no choice.

Memorial Weekend Blog

Yesterday was a rainy, gloomy day.  Today the sun it out and it is extremely humid.  It is one extreme to another here.
My friend, Tina, and I went to the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum yesterday.  It started to rain just before we got there so we had coffee and visited until the rain let up.  The waterfalls were running and we got some good shots of water droplets on the flowers.  One of the park worker was kind enough to point out a Hawk that was sitting in a tree.  He sat and posed for us and then he flew away.  It was a good time despite the weather.  Here is a link to some of my shots that I posted on Facebook.

Christmas Boat Parade, Lake Havasu City,AZ
Today's How I Took It Photo is one I took at the Christmas Boat Parade in Lake Havasu City, AZ.  I was in Manual Mode, F22, 30 Seconds, ISO 100, using a tripod and off camera trigger.
Here is an article about shooting products on a budget.  I know that most of you are not product shooters but you can use these techniques for photos for Ebay or Craigslist photos.  If you like to do Macro like me, this will help you too.   The biggest thing is to get the lighting right.

Here is something I have talked about before but it is worth repeating.  Be sure to make multiple back ups of your pictures.  This article is about a Photographer who lost all of his shots while he was on a hiking trip.  I try to have an extra charged battery with me and I make a point to download each night and then reformat my chips.  This was not possible for this poor guy.

Friday Fun

Happy Friday everyone.  Have fun this weekend and stay safe.
Here is a Pet Peeve of mine with many companies but the cell phone and cable TV companies are the worst.  Why can't you pay for the services you use?  Instead, everything is bundled so you end up paying for things that are of no use to you.  I wanted to drop internet access on just one of our cell phones and was told that I had to take it for both of our phones or none of them.  That makes no sense to me!  OK, I am now done ranting & raving for now.
Here is an article about foods that should not be refrigerated.  I knew some of these but there were some I did not know about.

Thursday Thoughts

Happy Thursday everyone.  We had some strong storms last night and this morning.  These gray days sap my energy.  If I didn't have to work in the candy store today, I would have been on the couch all day.
Well my favorite for Dancing With The Stars did not win but she did come in 2nd place.  This article is about how well the athletes do in the competition.  I think they are used to training and are probably in a lot better shape to start out than some of the other contestants.  They have videos of some of the best dances by the athletes too.

Here is an article on how to save money on baggage fees.  I try to pack light so I pick one base color and make sure everything I take can mix and match.  That way you can take fewer shoes and accessories as well.  Delta waives the luggage fees is you are using their credit card but there is an annual fee so it might not really save you any money if you don't travel a lot.

Wednesday Blog

Only a couple days to go before the big Holiday Weekend.  I hope we have good weather for all the outdoor gatherings.
Be aware Twin Cities people, we are under a flash flood warning for the next few days.  They are predicting heavy rains for the next couple of days.

I dropped my husband at the airport this morning.  He is flying to Arizona for a few weeks.  He is going to get our motorhome ready for this summer's grand journey.  He will drive it to Minnesota and we will leave from here.  I will post pictures and updates along the way.  The plan right now is to meet our friends in Montana and attend a music festival.  From there we will go to Banf & Lake Louise with a stop in Edmonton to visit some friends.
As some of you may know, we have a home in Lake Havasu City, AZ.  It is a great place to vacation.  There are lots of fun things to do there, great restaurants and the sunsets are amazing.  Here is a link to the Go Lake Havasu website.  Check it out!

This article stirred up some great memories for me.  It is about Australia from a Photographer's perspective.  I have been fortunate enough to have been to Australia twice.  Both trips were awesome.  It is a beautiful country with the nicest people.  The last shot at the end of the article is my favorite.  Enjoy!

Here is today's How I Shoot It photo.  It is an example of a reflections shot as well.  This was shot with my Olympus E510 SLR Camera, at F22, 1.3 Second and ISO 100.  For the night shots you must use a tripod and use an off camera trigger or use your camera's timer.

Tuesday Blog

Another beautiful day here in Minnesota.  I love, love this weather!  Please Mother Nature keep it coming!
One of my Guilty Pleasues is watching Dancing With The Stars.  Last night's show was awesome.  Tonight they get one more dance before the eliminations.  I hope Catherine wins it.
My other Guilty Pleasure is American Idol which also wraps up this week.  I would like to see Jessica win even though she is only 16 years old.  Her voice is amazing.
One of my very talented Photo Buddies just started a new business doing Portrait Photography.  I have taken some of his classes and he is very talented and a great guy to boot.  Here is a link to his website:

Here is an article that gives you tips for Landscape Photography.  He has compiled a list for Beginners and for Advanced shooters.  One tip I learned from reading an article about the famous Landscape Photographer, Ansel Adams, is to get down low when you are shooting.  I think having something in the forground makes the photo more interesting as well.

Here is a slide show that I saw on UTube of 700 pictures of the Solar Eclipse the other night.  It is very cool to watch.  I hope you enjoy it.

I often get asked what settings my camera was on when I shot an image so I thought I would add an image and tell you how I shot it.  It will be called How I Shot It.  I know when I started shooting in Manual Mode, I had a hard time figuring out what F Stop to start with so this might inspire you to try shooting in Manual Mode. This shot from the Raptor Release was taken with my Olympus E510 SLR at F8 and at 1/250th of second.

Monday Monday Can't Trust That Day

Granddaughter Kate, Two Years
I had a great time at my Granddaughter's second Birthday Party yesterday.  Grandchildren are such a joy.
After a dreary Sunday, Monday is a beautiful sunny day.   At least Saturday was pretty nice even if it was hot and windy.  I'll take that over cold and rainy any time.
Here is an article on how to compose your shots.  These are the general guidelines but do not afraid to experiment.  Some of the most interesting shots were the ones that did not follow the rules.  I think the rule os thirds is one of the important ones to keep in mind when you are starting out on your Photography Journey.

If you are a cat lover, you love this article.  It gives you tips and ideas so you can get that perfect shot of your pet.  Most of these will work for your other pets as well.  I am not sure if I could have gotten our cat to wear sun glasses.

This article is a introduction to Street Photography.  Street Photographer's try to tell a story and/or create an emotional response.  I have done a little of this type Photography on different trips I have taken over the years.  I sometimes feel like I am invading people's privacy when I am shooting.

Here is the Good Deal For Today.  The retouching program, Portrait Professional,  is half off.  It is normally $89.99 and it is on sale for $39.99.  You must use the code XT1771 to get this price.  I have used this program and it makes touching up portraits a breeze and is very simple to use.  It works well if you are trying to fix old photos of people as well.   If you are not sure if you would use this click on the buttons on the top  right on the screen, they have a demo video and a free trial version you can try out.

Weekend Blog

I hope everyone is having a great weekend.  I am really enjoying mine!
Here is an article about light for Portrait Photography.  I have taken three different Studio Photography Classes and each instuctor said something different.  I think the lighting you choose is part of the artistic part of the equation.  I tell people at the studio that if they like how their shots are turning out then they are doing it "right".  I, personally, like the the traditional 3 light system with the main and fill lights at 45 degree angles to the subject and an overhead hair light.  You will need to experiment to see what light set up gives you the desired results.

Here is an article by my friend, Valerie Jardin, about finding things in and around your home to photograph.  You do not have to spend tons of money in order to find interesting subjects to shoot.  I think we miss lots of interesting shots because we are not aware of how beautiful some ordinary things can be.
http://www.rocktheshotforum.com/2012/05/18/photo-walk-part-i-in-a-familiar-place/

I went on a Photo Walk Saturday morning which was a Meet Up Event.  There was a lot of road construction causing traffic jams so some of the participants were late.   We walked throught the Bruce Vento Nature Sanctuary in St. Paul.   My favorite part shooting the former Lower Town Depot which has been vacant for some time.   It was very hot and windy so we were pretty thirsty when we were done.  Here is  link to some my shots.

Finally Friday

It is finally Friday!  The weather is sunny, warm & breezy today in beautiful Downtown Lakeville.  I am looking forward to a weekend of no work only fun.  Saturday I am going on a Photo Shoot with my Photo Buddy Tina.  I will post some pictures next week.  Sunday is a Second Birthday party for my youngest Granddaughter, Kate.
I had a great evening last night with my Travel Agent friends.  We had a nice dinner and caught up with what is going on with everyone.   We, also, talked all the changes in the travel industry that are going on today.
Here is an article about photographing smoke.  I have tried shooting candles but not smoke specifically.  It is something fun to do and you can get some cool abstract shots.  I tend to do this type of things on rainy Sunday afternoons.  You might have to turn off the smoke detectors when you are shooting.  Do not forget to turn the smoke detectors back on when you are done.  If you find yourself in front of a campfire this summer give this a try too.
http://www.picturecorrect.com/tips/photographing-smoke/
Here is an article about creating a photograph showing a vanishing point.  This is, also, referred to as leading lines in photography circles.  The intent is to draw the viewer's eye into the photograph and tell a story.

Here is a link to my friend, Michelle's, Facebook Business Page.   She is the owner of Michelle Lockwood Photography in Lakeville, Minnesota.  She has the most adorable photos posted today of 2 little ones giggling.  When I look at the pictures, I can almost hear their laughter.  These shots will bring a smile to your face.  A great example of telling a story through photography.

Thursday Thoughts

Happy Thursday everyone.  It is yet another sunny day here in Minnesota today but the wind is really wicked.  It is supposed to be 80 degrees today which is good.
Have you ever put something away for safe keeping and then forgot where you put it?  Well, that is the situation at our house right now.  I have racked my brain and searched everywhere.  I did find some other things I have been looking for though.  It is really frustrating!
Here is an article about what is called Panning.  It is a great technique for photographing sporting events.  Since I do not go to a lot of this type of event, I have not tried this but it looks really cool.  I might be inticed to go to a race just to give this technique a try.
http://www.picturecorrect.com/tips/panning-photography-tips/
Here is an article that discusses the million dollar question of what distinguishes one Photographer from another.  If you get a diffinitive answer to this let me know.  The problem with any type of art is that it is totally subjective.  I have seen many "famous" works of art that I did not like.  I think if it is pleasing to your eye than it is a success.
http://www.picturecorrect.com/tips/style-and-vision-what-makes-one-photographer-different-from-another/
This article is about the troubles at Yahoo that have effected Flickr.  I still like Flickr and so do a lot of my Photo Buddies.
http://www.picturecorrect.com/news/the-downfall-of-flickr/
Here is an article about ways to combat fatigue.  I think we all would like to be more energentic.
http://www.positivelypositive.com/2012/05/16/all-day-energy-10-fantastic-ways-to-fight-fatigue/
If you are a music lover like me, you will like this article.  I suppose I am the only person who did not know that there were all of these free websites that you can listen to music on your computer.  Too cool!

Happy Wednesday everyone.  It is another warm, sunny day here in beautiful Downtown Lakeville.  This nice weather is really good for business.  We have been busy in the candy store this week.  It makes the day go by fast.
Here is an article about the proper way to store your photos.  It is especially important for your old family photos.  My sister and I have been trying to get as many of our photos scanned as possible so we can make copies for everyone.  That way if someone's home has a fire there will be another copy somewhere.  With digital you need to be careful how you store your discs as well.  Be sure to make more than one disc or upload to an external hard drive.  I do both of these with mine.

This article is for my friend Tricia.  She wants to do silhouettes of her kids riding horses at sunset.  This shot was captured in manual mode, F8, 1/250 second exposure.

This is a list of 15 things to give up to make yourself happy.  There is one about giving up your resistance to change.  This something that is hard for me to do.  I will have to try harder.  I want to be happy!

Here is an article that might help you find a better price on your airfare.  Everything I have been seeing has been really high lately.  Most of the time you end up trading time and convience for a lower fare so the more flexible you are the better fare you will get.

Tuesday Blog

Another beautiful day here in Minnesota.  It is cooler than yesterday and it is windy but still it is all good because the sun is shining.
Here is an article that discusses why you should consider staying at a Mom & Pop Hotel or Motel next time you travel.  As a small business owner I always want to support other small businesses.  As a travel agent it is not something I suggest unless I have stayed at the property myself of know someone who has stayed there and had a good experience.  The problem is there is not minimum standard that you can count on.   If you know of any awesome Mom & Pop properties, Please let me know and I will feature them on my Blog.
http://dearabbysmom.hubpages.com/hub/In-Praise-of-the-Mom-Pop-Motel
This article is giving you 10 things you can pack when you travel that will save you money.  Anytime you can avoid buying something at a resort or in the airport you are money ahead.
http://www.smartertravel.com/blogs/today-in-travel/10-things-to-pack-that-will-save-you-money.html?id=11313037&source=21073
This article is about chemicals that are in your cosmetics.  The last one they list is petroleum which my dermatologist said is the best thing for your lips so now I don't know what to think now.
http://www.positivelypositive.com/2012/05/09/chemicals-to-avoid-in-your-personal-care-products/
The title of this article made me smile.  It is about photographing babies.  I have some experience with this because of my 14 Grandkids.  It is not so hard when they are newborns because they stay in one place but when they start crawling and/or walking then it gets tougher.  We used to get 2 or 3 people with cameras to try and get a shot of our Molly.  Most of my shots ended up being the back of her head as she was running away.   If you are shooting in manual be sure to use a fast shutter speed or turn your camera to the man running mode.

I have some of my Photography on the Capture Minnesota website.  Take a look and let me know what you think my shots from around Minnesota.

Monday Madness

I hope you all had a great Mother's Day Weekend.  I am sorry I did not get any Blogging done this weekend.  I spent the whole weekend with family members.  Saturday was my Granddaughter's 6th Birthday Party which was so fun.  Saturday night we went to a bonfire at our son's house.  Sunday I spent at my parent's house.  All but one of my sisters were there and we had a great time visiting.  We went together and bought my Mom a new comfy chair for her computer room which she really needed.  The weather was glorious all weekend which was a bonus.
My husband has decided he wants to retire so we have decided to put the Miracole's Candy Shoppe up for sale.  If you know anyone who would like to buy a really fun business Please have them contact me.  I would like to see the store remain open and in Downtown Lakeville if at all possible.  It has been such a labor of love for me and I know the kids want to see it stay in town.
There is a Solar Storm hitting the Earth right now.  That would explain why our Wireless Interenet Connection keeps going down.

My favorite photo editing program, PaintShop Pro 4X Ultimate is on sale right now.  The regular price is $79.99 and right now Corel is offering it for $49.99 which is a great deal.  This program is great for photo editing and is a lot more user friendly than some of the others I have used.

This one is from the Improve Photography website.  It is what they think are their best Photography articles.  There are really great ones of their list.  They have them divided up into different categories.  If you are just starting out read the beginner ones first.   Be sure to read the one called The Absolute Simplest Guide To Learning Aperture, ISO And Shutter Speed.  That one will help you to make the transition to shooting in Manual Mode which is when all the fun starts.

Freaky Friday

It is another beautiful day in Minnesota.  There is a chance of thunderstorms.  I hope it misses us.
The elementary schools in Lakeville have the day off.  It is making for a really busy day in the candy store today.
Here is an article about why Photographers miss shooting opportunites. I think we all have times when we are not prepared when a Kodak moment happens.  I have learned to keep a small point and shoot camera in my purse just in case I come across a Photo Op.
Here is an article about Pinterest and Flickr.  There has been much discussion on how Pinterest will handle the Photographer's rights to their images.  It sounds like Flickr has come up with a solution to the problem.  I don't know if it will be enough for all the professional Photographers out there.

Here some photos of some of the RAW designer fashions carried at Isabella's in Downtown Lakeville. Robin & Jean can help you with your Spring wardrobe.

There is a great event coming up June 14th in Downtown Lakeville. The Great Grill Out will be from 6:00PM to 8:00PM. There will be food and entertainment. We are inviting the car clubs so there will be Classic Cars & Streetrods at the event.  If you have questions Please contact me at 612-490-0359.
Here is a link to some of the pictures from our Family Fun Night event we had in April.  It was great fun and we enjoyed getting to know our neighbors.
Wednesday June 13th is the first Farmer's Market in Downtown Lakeville for the season.  It is in the parking lot next to Ace Hardware from Noon to 5:00PM.  Saturday, June 23rd the Farmer's Market starts in the Art's Center parking lot in Downtown Lakeville from 9:00AM to 1:00PM.
Here is today's Thought For The Day.  It was on the Happiness Project website.

Thursday Thoughts

It is a beautiful Spring day in Minnesota.  The high is supposed to be in the 70's and the sun is shining.  All is right with my world today.
Here is an article about Black & White Photography.  There are two ways to do this.  If your camera has a Black & White setting you shoot it in black and white or what I usually do is shoot it in color and then convert it in post processing.  There are some subjects that look better in black and white like city skylines for example.
This is a Slide Show of flower shots from readers of Pop Photo magazine.  This is my favorite type of Photography.  Some of the flower shots look good in black and white too.
One of things I really hate is trying to think of something to make for dinner after you have worked all day.  I call it the rotation: Chicken, Beef, Pork, Fish.  This article is 6 quick and easy recipes for dinner.

Wednesday Writing

It is warm, sunny day here in Minnesota today.  People are out walking and working in their yards today.  Business is booming at Ace Hardware.  They are selling plants, fertilizer and mulch.  Spring has sprung!
This one is a Product Review of the Lens Baby products.  I did buy the Lens Baby Composer but I have been struggling with it.  I have not been able to get the right part of the shot in focus.  There must be some trick to it or something.  I have seen some really cool shots using these lenses so I know it is possible.

With Mother's Day coming up this article might come handy.  It is about doing Family photos.  We always try to do these shots when we get our family together.  I come from a huge family so it is not oftern when we get everyone together at once.  Family Photos make great Mother's Day gifts too.

Here is a great offer you can use for all those great Family pictures.  The folks at Canvas People are offering a free 8 by 10 inch canvas print or $50.00 off any of the larger sizes plus tax and shipping, of course.

I have been busy working on getting my ducks in a row for the Downtown Lakeville Business Association meeting.  I am going to be presenting the idea for a cruise night every other week through the summer in Downtown Lakeville.  It is going take some work but I think it will be a fun way to get people to Downtown Lakeville.  If you have any ideas or feedback, Please let me know.
Funjet Vacations has all their travel products on sale right now.  If you are planning your summer or fall vacation this is worth checking out.  If you would like more information give me a call.

Tuesday Blog

Today we woke to cloudy skies again!  It supposed to rain again today.  After all the media attention about the draught, they are now worrying about the possibility of flooding.  The ground is so saturated that there is no where for the water to go.
Today's rant is about people who do not pull over to the side of the road when an emergency vehicle with the sirens blaring is behind them.   Seconds can mean the difference between life and death in these situations.  Please always pull over as soon as you can and let them go by.
Here is an article about why you should consider doing some photography with your old film camera.  This is something I don't think I will ever do.  I love my Digital Camera so much I can not see myself ever going back to film.
http://www.picturecorrect.com/tips/film-photography-why-you-should-try-it-out/
This link is an example of why you always want to be aware of the background when you are shooting.  Make sure you position people so there is not distraction in the background.  You do not want to have the picture look like they have a tree growing out of the top of their head.  When you are shooting indoors be aware of what is on the walls as well.  If you have your subject step forward from the wall you can blur the background or take the pictures off the wall while you are shooting, when possible.

These really hit home with me.

The print I ordered from Adorama came today.  I have to say I am impressed with the quality.  They had a introductory special so it was only $5.00 for a 16 by 20 inch print, plus tax and shipping.  The regular price for a 16 by 20 print is $9.60.  Right now they are offering 8 by 10 inch prints for only $1.00 plus tax and shipping.  Here is a link to their new photo printing service.

I have uploaded some of my Minnesota photos to the Capture Minnesota website.  They have different Photo Contests going all the time.  The other members vote for their favorites so it is quite democratic.  If you have some shots you  would like to share you can click on the link below.  You will need to set up an account with them.

This Lakeville restaurant is not technically in Downton Lakeville but it is really close.  I am talking about Cosa Nostra's Italian Restaurant.  It is located next to my other favorite restaurant, Teresa's Mexican Restaurant.  They just expanded the restaurant and added a cool bar area.  The food is wonderful and they have nice wine list.  Check out their specials and give them a try.

Monday Blog

I hope everyone had a great weekend.  I had a good one despite the cloudy, rainy weather here in Minnesota.  Now that the weekend is over the sun is shining.  I hope you get a chance to get out and enjoy it.
Here is an article talking about UV Filters for your lens.  I have always just used mine to protect my lens from scratches.  I did not realize there were so many options to choose from and that they did more than just protecting the lens.   I have more money invested in my lenses than I spent on my camera body so I want all the protection I can get.  Any other benefit is a bonus.
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/indepth/photography/buying-guides/uv-filters
Over the weekend there was an unusually large full moon.  I would have liked to get a shot of it but there were thunder storms so it was not in the cards for me.  I really struggled trying to get a good full moon shot.  I did not think about the fact that the earth is rotating so I did not have my shutter speed fast enough.  Once my Photography Instructor, Adam Grim, pointed that out my shots improved dramatically.  Here is post about the Super Moon and a really nice shot of it.  Fortunately there is a full moon once a month so you always get another chance for a good moon shot.

I read this article over the weekend about the importance of Travel Insurance.  Being in the Travel Industry for over 22 years I have seen what happens when things go wrong.  The people who have purchased the Travel Insurance have a lot less headaches than the people who did not.  At the very least check to see what your medical coverage is before you leave the country.   In my opinion the Emergency Air Evacuation Coverage is the key thing.  If you are injured in a foreign country you want to be able to be transported home as soon as possible.

I am going to the Downtown Lakeville Business Association meeting this week.  I am going to be proposing that we sponsor a Cruise Night this summer for Downtown Lakeville.  If you are a "Car Person" and have any ideas or feedback about this idea, Please let me know ASAP.
It is Teacher Appreciation Week this week.  Please be sure to Thank all those teachers who are working so hard.  I had a few teachers who really taught me a lot and gave me the confidence I needed to get through some challenging times.  Hats off to all the Teachers out there!

Sunday Afternoon

Greetings everyone.  I hope you are enjoying the weekend.  Today is the day after the storm and it is still cloudy but the rain has stopped.  Some cities in Minnesota had as much as 4 1/2 inches of rain last night.  The Sever Weather Sirens went off in Burnsville last night.  We lost a small tree next to our building in Lakeville so we feel like we got pretty easy.  It could have been so much worse.   I am ready for some sun now.
Here is a video about Portrait Photography by Professional Photographer, Peter Hurley.  It is just head shots but there are links to some other Portrait tutorials at the bottom of the page.
http://www.picturecorrect.com/tips/headshot-photography/
Here is an article by Professional Photographer, Brian Jones, that I found the Picture Correct website about Spring Photography.  Spring is probably my favorite time of the year and there are so many things blooming that it is a Photographer's paradise.  I love the shot he took with the sunrays breaking through the clouds.
http://www.picturecorrect.com/tips/spring-season-photography/
Yesterday my Photo Buddy, Tina, and I attended the Raptor Release at Hyland Nature Center in Bloomington.  The weather was not ideal but we went anyway and it was really fun.  It did start to rain when they were releasing the birds so that was a bummer.  The University of Minnesota Raptor Center really does a great job.  Here is a link to some of the pictures I took yesterday.
Yesterday afternoon I took pictures of my Granddaughter and her friends in their Prom attire.  Everyone looked wonderful of course.  I am not going to deny being biased on this one.  Here is a link to some of the shots from our Photo Shoot.
Coming up on Thursday, May 17th is the Taste Of Lakeville event in Downtown Lakeville.  Tickets are $30.00 which is lower than a lot of these type events.  For more information click on the link below.

Friday Fun

Happy Friday to you all.   As of yesterday I have had over 500 views of my Blog on the Blogger site alone.  I don't get stats from the Lakeville Patch so I am not sure how many people are reading it on there.  I have had quite a few people mention they have read it.   I am honored.  Thank You all so much.
Tomorrow I am going to the Raptor Release with my Meet Up Group.  I went last year and it was a good time.  I will post some pictures this weekend on Facebook and Flickr.

Here is a really cool deal from Canvas People.  They are offering a free 8x10 canvas print to introduce you to their service.  You do have to pay shipping and handling so it is not totally free but still a good deal never the less.  This offer ends May 13th.  It is great gift idea for Mother's Day.

Here is a good example of how just changing positions when shooting can have a dramatic effect on your image.  I read an article about Ansel Adams and his was advice for Landscape Photography was to always get down low when you are shooting.

Here is an article with tips on printing your photos.  I know from a lot of trial and error that the paper makes a huge difference.  It is worth the extra money to pay for the better quality paper.  I do find I get better results when I buy the same brand of paper that the printer company makes.  There are times when it is worth the expense to have your image printed by a professional as well.
