Banff To Jasper Alberta Canada

Hi everyone.  If you have a Bucket List going and have not been to the Canadian Rockies be sure to add this destination to your list.  The beautiful mountain views are simply stunning.  I really liked all the little waterfalls coming down from the mountains.  The mountain lakes have different colors water ranging from blue green to a deep blue color.  Many of the roads we traveled had mountain streams along side which was quite lovely.  Check out my photos on the link below.
We were lucky enough to see a Black Bear, Big Horn Sheep, Mountain Goats, Deer, Antelop and cute little chipmunks.  We did not see any Elk, Grizzly Bears or Moose but maybe on our next trip.
Here are some shots of our drive from Banff to Jasper that I posted on Facebook.  We got off the freeway and took 1A most of the way which gave us lots of Kodak moments along the way.

Jasper is a smaller town than Banff and not as crowded.   There were some tourist shops but none of the expensive shops that we saw in Banff.  There were quite a few places to buy camping and fishing gear.  One day was plenty to see the sights in the area.
In Jasper we stayed at the Whistler Campground which run by the Canadian Park Service.  They have electric hook ups only but there is dump station with potable (drinkable) water faucets.  The spaces were nice and wide and in a wooded area.  All the roads are gravel.  They had lots of rain so the misquitos were terrible.  I felt sorry for all the people sleeping in tents.  They do not have very many pull throughs so you may have to back in to your campsite.  The bathroom/showers were a long way away so that might be a negative if you are tenting.  They had many signs warning campers not to leave coolers or food outside that attract the bears.
The next day we set off for Edmonton.  There were beautiful mountain views on the first part of our journey and then the terrain flattened out as we got closer to Edmonton.  We were fortunate to see Big Horn Sheep along the way two different times.  They are not afraid of people and I saw a lot of people getting real close to them.  It was really cool to see.

Banff & Lake Louise

It was quite a shock going from sleepy little Slocan to Banff.  I want to start by saying the scenery in the area is incredible.  Banff was very crowded and it had lots of shops and restaurants geered to tourists which is not my idea of a good time.  If I ever went back I would stay somewhere outside of town.  There were lots of very upscale shops and trendy restaurants and it looked like there was good night life.  It was very expensive and parking was a nightmare.  There is a lot to do and see especially if you are into hiking and biking.  My favorite things were the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel and Bow Waterfalls which is near the hotel.  They have horse back riding and white water rapids trips nearby.  If you don't mind crowds and you like lots of action, you will enjoy Banff & Lake Louise.
We were lucky to land a spot at the Tunnel Mountain 2 Campground.  The sites have electricity hook up only but there is a dump station with drinkable water faucets at the park.  The bathrooms and showers were nicely maintained.  There was a picnic table at each site.  The best thing were the stunning mountain views around the camp ground.  It was close to downtown Banff.
We visited Johnston Canyon on our way up to Lake Louise to see the Johnston Canyon Waterfalls.  It is a half hour walk to the lower falls and a hour and half walk to the upper falls.  I could only convince my husband to do the lower falls.  When you get close to the falls you are on walkways that are built on the walls of the canyon.  It was a little scary but once you got to the falls it was all worth it.
If you are heading to Canada bring lots of bug spray.  The mosquitos were terrible.  They have had a lot of rain so I think they were worse than usual.  All the rivers and lakes were overflowing their banks.  The waterfalls were raging which was really cool.

Slocan British Columbia Canada

Hi everyone.  Sorry I have not posted for so long.  We have not had internet access and/or phone service for most of our trip to Canada.
We had a wonderful visit with cousin, Pam & her husband David in beautiful Slocan.  It was such a joy to be able to meet David and spend time with Pam.  She was gracious enough to show us her home and the areas around Slocan.
Pam and David have a guest house that is available for rent. It is called the Paradise Valley Lodge in the Slocan Valley.  It is in Winlaw which is just South of Slocan.  It is newly remodeled and sleeps up to eight people.  It is a perfect place to stay while exploring the area.

Slocan is a sleepy little mountain village located about 3 1/2 hours North of Spokane, Washington in British Columbia.  Everywhere you look there are beautiful mountain views and pristine mountain lakes and streams.  Slocan has one grocery store and one restaurant.  There are no hotels that I could find.  There is an old saw mill that only runs when the price of lumber is high enough to support it.  We loved the murals that were painted on many of the buildings  The only internet access was at the Learning Center.  They have recently added a boat launch with docks for access to Slocan Lake.
We stayed at the Springer Creek RV Park which is right on the road coming into the town on Slocan.  This is not a place to come if you want lots of amenities but if you like quiet and secluded it is perfect.  We were in a pull through with full hook ups (Space #3).  There was a small stream running next to it and just down the road by Space #15 is a path down to a beautiful waterfall.  It was so cool.  There were wild flowers along the roads which was lovely.  There is no pool, no games, no game room etc.  They did have a dump station and a nice clean  bathroom/shower building.
From Slocan we drove to Banff, Albert.  It was a beautiful drive with fabulous mountain and lake views along the way.   The road was a little scary in spots especially if you do not like heights.  We took the free ferry at Galena Bay across Arrow Lake.  When we arrived in Banff we were lucky enough to see a Black Bear and some Great Horned Sheep.

Hello From Helena

Sorry I have not written my Blog for a while.  Internet access here in Montana is spotty at best and we have been doing quite a bit of site seeing as well.  Western Montana is such a beautiful place.  I will be posting pictures on Facebook when I can.
The first day we were in Helena we spent getting settled in.  The next day we set out towards the Northeast and drove around Nevada Lake and had lunch in the cute little town of Lincoln, MT.  We were at the Great Divide.
We spent some time exploring the town of Helena which is the capitol of Montana.  There is a beautiful capitol building.   I highly recommend taking the city tour because you learn so much about the history of the town and get an idea of where things are.
We took one day and drove around Canyon Ferry Lake.  We turned down some of the side roads and got to see a herd of deer and a couple of Osprey nests.  It was really a fun day and I had fun shooting the scenery and animals.  We had lunch in Townsend on our way back to Helena.
Yesterday we drove South towards Butte and then got on I90 and got off on Highway 1.  We drove through the small town of Anaconda   We were at the Continental Divide.  We saw many horses and cows at the many ranches along the way.  We saw an old abandoned Silver mine which was pretty cool.  The rock formations we saw were amazing.  I shot lots of pictures along the way.  Flint Creek ran along the road we were on which was lovely as well.
One sad thing here is there are a lot of dead pine trees in the forests.  They have had an infestation of the Bark Beetles which kill the trees.  It causes a big fire danger as the trees dry out.  I hope they can find some solution to this problem.  I am sure it affects the logging industry here too.
We passed a couple of signs along the way:  Mining Museum-Usually Open and Metzger's Used Cow Lot.
I am not sure if the second one was a joke or not.
I would like to give a plug to my friend and fellow Blogger, Kelly Allard.  She has a new Culinary Blog about Minnesota.  I wish her much success in the future.

Greetings from beautiful Watford, North Dakota (said with tongue in cheek). We drove 11 ½ hours on the first day of our journey. It was a very long day. It was a lot hotter than I thought it would be this far North and very humid. The wind has been blowing ever since we got to North Dakota.

I have no internet access here so God knows when I will be able to post this Blog. It is an odd feeling to not be able to touch base with friends and family like I usually do on a daily basis. I guess that is part of the adventure.

We had a nice visit and dinner with our friend Tony and his son Mug last night. They were gracious enough to buy us dinner at the local steak house. Tony is driving a crude oil truck and Mug is working as a mechanic up here on the oil fields.

We dry camped at the Man Camp where Tony & Mug are living at here in North Dakota. These guys work very hard in often harsh conditions. It is very desolate with lots of oil rigs and trucks hauling water and crude oil. The drilling goes 24 hours a day, 7 days a week so they all work long hours. They pay very well but I must say you earn every penny they make up here.

It is quite amazing how the terrain changed as we traveled North from Interstate 94. It had been very flat all the way and suddenly you came into the beautiful North Dakota Badlands. We stopped and took some photos at a scenic overlook. As we continued North just as abruptly we were back to the plains again.

As I write this I am sitting in the motorhome waiting for my husband to get back from Tioga, North Dakota. He drove up there early this morning to check on a plumbing job his doing some consulting on. When he returns we will get back on the road heading to Montana to meet our friends.

Packing Up Day

Today is a busy day.  I am busy packing the Motorhome so we can leave tomorrow at O Dark Hundred for our 2 month adventure.  I am not sure how the internet access will be so if you don't hear from me you know I am in a dead zone.  I will be blogging and posting pictures on Facebook along the way.  I will miss all my family and friends in Minnesota but I am looking forward to visiting friends and family along the way.
My Blog has now well over a thousand page views which is very exciting for me.  Thank you all for your support.  It means a lot to me.  Please let me know if you have any comments or suggestions.
I think I have my Sprint internet access problem solved.  It has been quite frustrating.  I, also, upgraded my phone to an IPhone so I am trying to figure out how to use it now.
I found another product from Africa that works really well.  It is African Black Soap.  It is made with palm ash, tamarind extract, tar & plantain peel.  It works well for Eczema, Acne, Psorisis and most skin ailments.  You can even use it to wash your hair.  They sell it on a number of different websites.  I got mine from Sheer Treasures.

Gogo Vacations just started a USA & Canada Vacations sale.  Call me if you would like more information.
In honor of the up coming 4th of July celebrations, here are a couple of links to Fireworks tutorials.  These are just a guide.  You will have to play around with your settings before you get the results you want.  To get you started here is how I would shoot it:  Manual Mode, ISO 100-200, no flash, use a tripod, use off camera release or in camera timer, F22, 5 second exposure.

Today's How I Took It Photo was taken in Red Wing Minnesota last week.  I shot this with my Olympus E 510 SLR Camera, Manual Mode, F6.3, 1/400 second, ISO 100, Handheld.
