I hope your weekend was great. The weekends always go by so fast and the work days often seem to drag on forever. The candy store has been getting busier as we get closer to summer. That makes the days go by really fast.

Face Book rolled out their new format today. I do not know why the have to keep changing everything. It seems like I am having to relearn how to use it every few weeks. I think this is what keeps a lot of people from using it. OK, I am done with my rant now.
A customer told me today that M&Ms has come out with another new flavor, Coconut. It does not sound good to me but she assured me they were wonderful. I will try to see if we can get some in the store and we will do a taste test. You learn something every day!

Thursday Thoughts
Happy Thursday everyone. Only one more day to go until the weekend. The weather man is predicting a wonderful weekend for Minnesota. I hope you can get out and enjoy it.
Today's featured Downtown business is Babe's Music Bar It is a great place to enjoy some music and have a casual dinner. There is free popcorn in the bar area!

One of my favorite places to get away for a long weekend is Bayfield, Wisconsin. It is a quaint little town in Northern Wisconsin on Lake Superior. They have lots of cute shops and restaurants. You can stay at one of the many B&Bs or at one of the nearby resorts. There is a ferry over to Madeline Island as well. There are many sailboat charter companies but my favorite one is Catchun Sun Charters owned by brother in law Captain Terry McGuire. Be sure to plan another trip back in the fall for the Apple Festival.

I heard today that March 31st is Back Up Your Computer Day. Who knew there was such a thing. I cannot express the importance of this. I have had two hard drives crash and I was so glad I had made copies of all my images and documents. I like to back up to an external hard drive and to disc just to be safe. The external hard drives can fail too so be sure to have a second back up method.
Be sure to bring your little ones into town this Saturday morning for the Easter Egg Scramble in Downtown Lakeville. Participating merchants will be handing out Easter candy. Miracole's Candy will be handing out Easter candy from 9:00AM until Noon.

Wacky Wednesday Blog
Here we are half way to the weekend! Yesterday we had a really slow day in the candy store. Today has been really busy. There must be some cosmic force that causes people to all want candy on the same day. I have not been able to figure it out. We always do better on nice weather days but on Monday which usually is our slowest day, the weather was not great and we were busy.
Some of you have been kind enough to inquire about my Dad. He is recovering nicely from his Brain Surgeries. They said his personality might change and it has somewhat for the better. He is learning to use his new Kindle Fire which something he would not have tackled before the surgery. His latest request is for a Karaoke Machine. I am not sure why he wants it but at 83 I think you should have whatever you want.

With summer coming up I thought I would give all you Senior Citizens a heads up. Did you know that you can purchase a Senior Pass for the National Parks. When we got our's it was only $10.00 and it was good for both of us for the rest of our lives. One of you must be over 65 years of age. We have used this pass many times over the last 3 years. It is a great deal and there are so many fantastic National Parks to see in our country.

Tuesday Blog
Yesterday's rain and clouds have gone away but the winds have not. No use combing your hair until you are inside today. At least the sun is shining. I am, also, loving the later sunsets It is so nice not to have to drive home in the dark.
I am really enjoying Dancing With The Stars this year. The dancers are so much better this year. It is going to be an interesting competition. As someone who has taken a lot of dance lessons, I can tell you learning to dance is not easy.
Sun Country Airlines has their flight scheduled loaded in our reservation system. They have it in through the end of 2012. We should have the winter flights by mid July. The tour companies get the air contracts done first so we always see the flights before the hotels are in the reservation system. The hotels are loaded in the system as they get the contracts finalized. They fly from the HHH Terminal (aka Terminal 2). It is much smaller than the main terminal so a lot of people prefer it. Sun Country is my favorite airline.

There is a new study out the says regular Chocolate eaters are thinner than those who don't. That is a study you like to see in the news when you own a candy store. I am sure there are some who would dispute the findings. Think moderation!

I am not into politics but I am not for forcing Americans to buy health insurance. I do think everyone should have coverage. I do agree that if they are forcing you to buy it then it becomes a tax. It seems fundamentally wrong when this is supposed to be a "Free" country. OK, I am getting off my soap box now.
I have to call tech support this afternoon because my browse button does not work on my laptop. I did a Google search and apparently this is a glitch in Windows 7. Wish me luck!

Moody Monday
It is Monday and it is cool, windy and cloudy here in Minnesota. The clouds put me in a gloomy mood but on a brighter note, I did have a great weekend. Saturday was a "Get It Done Day" but we had nice dinner with our son and daughter in law. Sunday we had a group of Photographers who came to tour our Studio Rental facility. They were from the Meet Up Beginner's Photography group. It was nice to make some new friends and get some practice using the studio equipment. A big Thank You to Aaron for putting the event together and to Granddaughter, Jordynn, for being our model.
Sunday night I went on a photo shoot with my Photography Instructor, Adam Grim. We shot the Minneapolis Skyline from a pedesterian bright on 35W. It was so fun.

Sunday Blog
I hope you all had a great weekend. We had a little drama on Saturday. The rule at the McGuire household is that everyone put their car keys in one spot when they come in. That way if someone needs to move a vehicle the keys are there. Well, I went to leave and no keys. We spent a half hour looking for them. I finally had to call my husband and have him make a new one. Of course after we made a new one they turned up. They were at the neighbors in what is known as the SAC short for Spousal Avoidance Chamber. I do not even want to know how they got there. The McGuire Family is notorious for losing things especially keys. When I first met my husband he locked my keys in my car while it was running. That should have been a red flag but I was blinded by love.

This afternoon I have 19 Photographers coming to tour the studio. They are from the Beginner's Photography Meet Up group. It will great to meet them all in person. If we have time we will spend some time practicing with the studio equipment.

Happy Friday everyone. The sun is out and it is a warm Spring day here in Downtown Lakeville, MN. I love the sun. It seems everyone is in a good mood today.

I have had some questions about Travel Insurance. I know everyone wants to save money as I do. If you purchase the travel insurance and do not need it seems like your wasting money. The first thing I recommend is to call your credit card company and see if you have it built in already. I have many clients who use certain cards because it gives them the travel insurance when they use the card to purchase their trip. The other thing to check is what kind of health insurance coverage you have when you are out of the US, if any at all. Be sure to ask if they cover emergency evacuation and the dollar amount they cover. The emergency evacuations can cost thousands of dollars and in a emergency you may not have a choice. I highly recomend you buy the travel insurance if you are booking online. When something goes wrong many of the online retailers do not have enough staff to cover the volume of calls. Having the insurance gives you a Plan B. If you can't get through to the online retailer's customer service or the airline, you can call the travel insurance company for help. One of the advantages to using a travel agent is you have someone to do all of this for you when there is an emergency. If you have questions, Please feel free to contact me.

Thursday Blog
It is a cloudy with on and off rain today here in beautiful Downtown Lakeville. I know we need the rain but I hate gloomy days. At least it is nice and warm and there is no wind.
I am having dinner with some of my Travel Agent buddies tonight. I have made so many good friends over the last 22 years working in the Travel Industry. Whenever I am working on a destination I am not familiar with I can call and someone will have the information I need.
Today I am working on a trip to Venice for some friends of ours. Venice is one of my favorite cities. I have been there twice and had a great time each time.
I got a message from the Lakeville Patch website that said 3 people did not like one of my Blog posts. I am not sure what their issues were. I sincerely apologize if I offended anyone. Please contact me directly if you have any complaints or comments.
The link below is to an article I read in a Candy Industry newsletter. It talks about how people will be still trying to keep their spending as low as possible in 2012 and how the prices keep going up. I know the prices of candy have risen sharply since August when we bought the candy store. It has been a challenge for retailers to stay competitive and still make a profit.

I have had some people ask me about Photo Editing programs. I have worked with several different ones over the years. They all do almost the same things. I think Photoshop has a great product but it has a much higher learning curve than some of the other ones. The one I recommend for beginners is the Corel Paint Shop Pro X4 which is the newest version. It is almost half the price of Photo Shop Elements and a fraction of the cost of the Photo Shop CS6 professional version. I am having dinner with some of my Travel Agent buddies tonight. I have made so many good friends over the last 22 years working in the Travel Industry. Whenever I am working on a destination I am not familiar with I can call and someone will have the information I need.
Today I am working on a trip to Venice for some friends of ours. Venice is one of my favorite cities. I have been there twice and had a great time each time.

It talks about how people will be still trying to keep their spending as low as possible in 2012 and how the prices keep going up. I know the prices of candy have risen sharply since August when we bought the candy store. It has been a challenge for retailers to stay competitive and still make a profit.

This next article will be helpful if you have a new DSLR camera. I had a really hard time myself trying to figure out which lens I should buy. A good lens can be quite expensive so you don't want to pick the wrong one. I have really noticed a difference in my shots when I upgraded my lens.

Back To Reality Blog
I am back from my trip to Arizona. I had a great time seeing old friends, going to parties and celebrating my 24 years of marriage to my husband, Tim. Our flight home was delayed so we did not get into Minneapolis until almost 11:00PM. I could not get to sleep when we got home. So, today I am really dragging.
My business partner, Mary and our wonderful employee Rebekka handled the candy store while we were gone. They did a great job. It is nice to be able to have people you can depend on when you are out of town.

Here is a great tutorial talking about how to avoid camera shake. The less light you have the more stable your camera has to be so a tripod is a must. I get the best results using a tripod and the timer feature on my DSLR camera.

Happy St. Patrick's Day
I have been having problems with the computer I have here in Arizona so I have not been able to get my Blog done. I have done everything I can think of to fix it. It is about 5 years old so I think that might be the problem. I have a new laptop but I was to lazy to lug it with me so I guess it is my own fault. It has been quite frustrating!

Friday Blog
Happy Friday everyone. I hope you have something fun planned for the weekend. It sounds like the weather is going to be awesome here in AZ tomorrow but there is a storm coming in Saturday night. A lot of times the storms seem to miss us here. Minnesota is enjoying record warm temperatures which really helps the foot traffic in the candy store. I hope you can get out and enjoy the nice weather.
We have some friends who are from Calgary surprised us with a visit yesterday. We were delighted to be able to see them. We are going on a boat ride this afternoon and taking them to see the London Bridge. I wish we could show it to them without the Spring Breaker's being there but it can not be helped.

Tuesday Talk
Happy Tuesday everyone. I am spending my morning doing my least favorite part of my Travel Consultant duties which is the accounting part. It is tedious work but I do not get paid unless I get the invoices run. I like to do the tasks I dislike the most first so I don't have it nagging at me in the back of my mind. Now I can take on some house cleaning tasks. Yeah!

March Monday
From what I am hearing Minnesota is enjoying great weather. It is beautiful here in Arizona as well. Could we really be done with winter? I hope Mother Nature does not have any nasty tricks up her sleeve.
Here is a tutorial on understanding what Depth of Field means. This is very important to learn because it can change the whole look of a photo. I love to do Macro Photography and this requires a shallow Depth of Field which makes the subject stand out and blurs the background.

I would think their prices would be a lot less than you find at the custom frame shops. The only thing that bothers me is this may put more small businesses out of business.

Husband, Tim, is better today. I have been using all of my Mom's home remedies and it is working. My Mom is big into natural medicine. I like to use a combination of over the counter remedies and the natural ones. She swears by Vitamin C, Echinacea, Zinc and Garlic. Her other secret weapon is to boil Orange peels and have them drink the liquid. I usually add some Lemonade or Orange Juice to may it more palatable. I know it sounds strange but it works.

Weekend Blog From Arizona
I hope you all had a great weekend. We arrived at our home in Lake Havasu City, AZ safely. We had to get up at 4:00AM on Saturday so it was early to bed for us last night. My husband, Tim, caught a nasty cold along the way. I made him Italian Chicken Soup and hot lemonade this afternoon. He is not a happy camper!

TGIF March 9 2012
Today I am doing the "Happy Dance" all day because tomorrow at "O Dark Hundred" my husband and I are flying to Arizona for 10 days! We have a home in Lake Havasu City, AZ. For those of you going "where the heck is that?", it is in the Northwest part of Arizona on the border with California. It is 2 1/2 hours South of Las Vegas. It is home to the famous London Bridge. It is one of our favorite places. We hope to be able to retire there one day.

I am really liking the fairly new feature with many cable TV companies call "On Demand". With Comcast you just hit the button on the remote and choose what you want to watch. It is nice to be able to watch the show you missed the night before. I don't know if this will replace the DVR feature or not but for me, I like it better.
I am working on yet another Las Vegas trip this afternoon. Once again the prices are so much higher this year compared to past years. The average person is being priced off the strip! Fortunately there are a lot of nice, affordable properties within walking distance of the Las Vegas strip.
We have been really busy at the Candy Store today so it is taking me a long time to write this Blog. I gave a tour of the studio today and we have some people renting studio space this weekend. It is a good thing I am an expert at multi tasking.

Gloomy Wednesday
Yesterday was a warm and sunny day. Today it is raining and the temperature is supposed to drop as the day goes on. I must have that Seasonal Affective Disorder because this weather really makes me depressed. I know we need the rain but it is so gray and gloomy. It, also, kills business in the candy store. I have to tell myself that this is short lived.
We had a really busy day in the store yesterday. The warm weather had everyone out and about and in a good mood. The day just flew by. I am glad we had gotten our candy order in so we had a lot of candy in stock. I am working on ordering more of our hand made candy today. Next week is going to be warm so we will be busy again.

The Disney Fantasy will have two Broadway style musicals, an interactive adventure quest starring the Muppets, a new water play area called Aqua Lab and a European inspired entertainment area for adults. Tuesday Talk
The weather in Minnesota is lovely today. The sun is shining and there is very little wind. Downtown Lakeville is full of people out enjoying the day. As a result we are having a busy day in the store today.

I have been in technological limbo for the last 5 days. Our credit card terminal quit working. Our internet service provider said it was not their issue, the tech department from our credit card service said it was not their issue and our computer person says it is not our signal either. I cannot get anyone to step up to the plate and figure out what the problem is. it is sooooooooooo frustrating!
We have some new candy items at Miracole's Candy Shoppe: Jolly Rancher Crunch & Chews and Hershey Air Delight bars. Our Easter candy is starting to come in. We got some candy filled Easter Eggs in today. We can put together custom Easter Baskets for you. Easter is just 32 days away!
Now is the time to start thinking about planning your summer vacation. The busiest times are over holiday weekends, the first 2 weeks of June and the last 2 weeks of August. With gas prices going up you might want to consider some places closer to home.

I started playing Words With Friends on Facebook. It is very similar to Scrabble which I really like. My sister, Denise, is already beating the pant off me. If you are a Facebook user give it a try.

Weekend Blog
It is a lazy Sunday here in the McGuire home today. We slept in and took our time reading the Sunday paper. My husband, Tim, is going to watch DRAG RACINGGGG this afternoon. We always say it like the annoucer on ESPN. I guess I will be reading or playing on the computer this afternoon.
My Dad is coming home from the hospital today which will make him really happy. We spent the afternoon with him at the hospital yesterday. My husband slipped and fell on some water that was in the hallway at the hospital. You can not imagine how many people come when you fall on the ICU floor. They insisted he go down to emergency for XRays so that is what we did. He is going to be fine but I think his pride is a little bruised.
Please pray for all the families who are dealing with the aftermath of all the tornados that hit this week. It is a surreal and over whelming experience. My heart goes out to all the families who have lost loved ones.
The Spirit Airlines flights from Minneapolis will begin May 31st of this year. They will be offering non stop service Chicago, Las Vegas & Ft. Lauderdale. I have learned that they will allow one personal item to be carryed on for free but it must fit under the seat in front of you. They will charge for the second bag. The prices are cheaper if you do everything on their website versus at the airport. Here is an article from the Washington Post:

My Dad is recovering from his Brain surgery on Wednesday. He is sitting up and is complaining about the hospital food so I think he will be OK. I will have to bring him some treats from our candy store. I am not sure when they will release him from the hospital yet.

Thankfull Thursday
I did not write a Blog yesterday because my Dad had to have emergency surgery yesterday. This is his second Brain surgery in 9 days. Blood had accumulated on his brain again so they did pretty much the same surgery again. The Neuro Surgeon did not know why the blood came back. He said is it was rare occurence and atributed it to "bad luck" which was not much of an answer in my book. The fear we had with both of these surgeries was the possibility of a stroke but fortunately that did not happen. I could tell this second surgery took a lot more out of him than the first one. It is so hard to see your parent in this condition. We are very grateful for all the prayers and support of our family and friends. I truly believe this help him to survive the surgery.
The big news here in Minnesota is a new Airline coming to Terminal 2 (HHH Terminal). This is good news because it increases competition and forces the other carriers to lower fares. I am not a fan of their business model. They offer a very low base fare and then to proceed to charge you for everything. The one that irks me the most is charging $50.00 each way for a carry on. The big news here in Minnesota is a new Airline coming to Terminal 2 (HHH Terminal). This is good news because it increases competition and forces the other carriers to lower fares. I am not a fan of their business model. They offer a very low base fare and then to proceed to charge you for everything. The one that irks me the most is charging $50.00 each way for a carry on. This article gives you 15 tips for Low Light Photography. This is one area I really struggled with until my Photography Instructor, Adam Grim, showed me how to do it right. The photo below is one I took while taking Adam Grim's In The Field Photography Class. Now, I love shooting at night.
It is critical that you use a Tripod and Remote Trigger or your camera's timer.
