Busy Monday
Happy Monday everyone! My Monday has turned out to be pretty a busy one.

Sunday A Day Of Rest
My goal for today is to not go anywhere or do any work. I wonder if I can make that stick today. It is necessary once in while to have a day to rest and recharge. I did not get to sleep in this morning due to a text I received at 6:30AM from someone wanting to be my money manager. What were they thinking? I had a nice hour all to my self reading the Sunday paper and drinking coffee though.
Here is link to a tutorial about using your camera's LCD screen to improve the composition of your shot. Professional Photographers call this "Chimping" which means checking your screen each time you take a shot. They feel it shows you are not confident in your ability to compose a good shot. Personally I think it does help you learn and you get a chance for a "do over".

Sunny Saturday In Minnesota
I hope you all are having an awesome weekend. Oh what a difference a day makes. The sun is out and the wind is gone. It feels so wonderful after Friday's awful weather.
My husband and I drove up to visit my Dad now that he is out of the hospital. He is sitting up and talking and even cracking some jokes. He is definitely weak and tired but we are hoping he will bounce back pretty quickly. If are new to my Blog, my Dad had Brain Surgery last Monday and he is 83 years old
One thing I have learned owning a Candy Store is that each Sam's Club carries different merchandise. Whenever I am in a different part of town and I see a Sam's Club I stop in to see if they have anything that we need in the store. I was delighted to find the American Coke in glass bottles. I could not get them from any of our suppliers. I, also, found Twizzlers so they are back in stock as well.

We had a wonderful dinner at our favorite restaurant in Lakeville, Teresa's last night. If you have not tried it you are really missing out. The food is fantastic and the service is wonderful. It is a great place for lunch because they get you in out really fast. Here is a link to their website:

Frigid Friday Blog
Happy Friday everyone! My daughter and I are planning to go visit my parents tomorrow. My Dad is getting out of the hospital today. He had Brain Surgery on Monday. He will have a Home Health Aide coming in every day to give him his medications. He is getting a little better each day so we hope his mood will improve as well. He is not the ideal patient. Many Thanks to the staff at Mercy Hospital for saving my Dad's life and putting up with his crankiness.

The best way to improve your Photography is to get to know how to use your camera. A lot of the people I meet have not read their manual or ever moved off the Automatic setting. A big Happy Birthday to my sister, Cory. I hope you have a great day. Thank you so much for fixing up Dad's hair after his brain surgery. He is not too happy about his new look courtesy of the Surgeon.
Today's mini drama is the door chime fell off the door in the candy store. My husband has me scouring the internet for a replacement bracket. From what I can find there is no such a thing for sale so it looks like we will be shopping for new one.
Second mini drama is the floor drain is plugged at the house. I had a wonderful time at the Laundromat this morning as a result. I forgot how much I hate dragging clothes baskets in and out. Fortunately, the drain cleaners are coming to fix the problem.
While I was waiting for my clothes to wash I read in the March issue of Real Simple magazine that the average US citizen comsumes 130.6 pounds of sugar a year. It went on to say that people who indulge in sweets proved to be more likely to help a person in need and are kinder to their peers. Maybe we need to feed all those Bullies more candy. I am just saying!

Mid Week Musing
Happy "Hump Day" everyone. It is a bright sunny day in Minnesota today. It makes me long for Spring but it is only a tease. Snow is predicted for tomorrow and Sunday.
I am always amazed when people drive their cars on the lake when they are warned not to. We lived on a lake for 12 years and every year several vehicles ended up at the bottom of lake. Here is an article about what happens after your vehicle goes for a swim:

My Dad is getting a little better each day. He still has a drainage tube in his head but we hope that will come out today. He is a little slow to answer questions but his memory is good. He may go home tomorrow if all goes well. He is enjoying his many visitors. Our family chipped in and bought him a Kindle so he can watch his favorite movies and play games. Thank you to all of your prayers. I know that helped get him through his Brain Surgery.
I have been reminding you to practice your Photography each day. It gets hard to think of something to take a picture of. The link below gives some ideas for creating Still Lifes. I want to try this one if I ever have some extra time. Enjoy:

Happy President's Day
Today is the day my Dad has surgery. We are all trying to think positive and hope the surgery is a success. He is tough old guy so if anyone can do it he can. Thank you all for your prayers.

Sunny Sunday Feb 19th 2012
I hope you are enjoying your Sunday and this wonderful weather. Tomorrow does not sound too good so get outside today.

On a personal note. My Dad who is 83 years old went into the hospital last night. After many test they found out he has blood on his brain. They are not sure why but it could be from a head injury. They are doing surgery tomorrow at Noon. I am hoping he will come through it just fine but at 83 you never know. The family will be doing a lot of praying tonight.

I slept in this morning. It felt so good! I had a busy week between the candy store, my travel business and the studio. I hope everyone will have a great weekend.

This afternoon my husband and I are going to the Minnesota History Center in St. Paul to see the 1968 Exhibit. This is the last weekend it will be there. Happy Friday everyone. Another bright sunny day in Minnesota. Love it!
I am procrastinating today. I should be working on getting all the tax stuff together for our accountant but I just do not feel like it. It is one job I really hate doing. Maybe I will do it next week.
As many of you know, my husband is a "Car Guy". He has built 13 Street Rods (AKA Hotrods) in our Garage over the past 27 years. So you will see why this tutorial caught my eye. This will get me ready for this summer's round of Car Shows. http://www.picturecorrect.com/tips/vintage-car-photography/

Happy "Hump Day" everyone. Only 2 more days until the weekend!
Oh what a difference a day makes. Yesterday we were so busy in the candy store and today not so much. Fortunately I have a lot of other tasks to keep me busy. I am working on three different trips for clients. I had to go in and update the website for my husband's business (McGuire Mechanical Plumbing & Heating). Then there is all the mundane stuff like cleaning, laundry & bills, UGH!
It is snowing in Lakeville this afternoon. They did not mention that on the weather this morning. It is pretty though. It looks like you are inside a Snow Globe.

Instead of going out tonight and fighting the crowds my husband and I are having a Prime Rib dinner at home tonight with our son, Devin, and his lovely wife, Sarah. I am looking forward to it! I hope your evening is romantic & wonderful too.
I had 2 balcony cabins waitlisted on the MSC Opera for a Baltic Cruise. This morning the waitlist cleared which made my clients very happy and me too. I had a bit of drama with the cruise line because both couples live in Australia. The cruise line told me they had to book in Australia which I thought made no sense. After some wrangling I finally got them to see it my way. Whew!

Monday, Monday, Monday!!!
Happy Monday everyone. Did you watch the Grammy's last night? I really enjoyed most of the show. I do not care for Rap & Hip Hop music. I thought Adele & Jennifer Hudson did a fabulous job. What was Lady GaGa thinking? My heart goes out to Glenn Campbell and his family. Such a tragedy.
The last minute Valentine's Day shoppers are out today. I am glad I stocked up on our hand made candies. Monday is usually our slowest day of the week but not today.

The snow that the weather man predicted this morning has started. It is supposed to only be a trace but sometimes they are wrong. Snow is not good for business in the Candy Store but it often helps get the phone ringing for travel to warmer climates. I know we need the moisture but I hate driving in it!
I am so looking forward to Spring and the longer days.
I got a call this morning asking if we would like to sell some hand made, one of a kind bird houses. I m going to check them out this week. It would be a fun addition to our gift lines and just in time for Spring.
I am listening to FM 105.1 on the radio. They are doing a tribute to Whitney Houston today. Please say a prayer for Whitney's daughter and family.

Ahhhhhh Sunday, my favorite day of the week. Sleep in, drink coffee & read the Sunday paper. I love that.
Sad news today that Whitney Houston passed away yesterday. Such a beautiful woman with an incredible voice. I have not heard the cause of death yet but there is a lot of speculation that it was drugs. Whatever the cause the world has lost a great talent. I am so sad for her family and especially her daughter. Rest In Peace Whitney.
I had a great time yesterday with my friends from high school, AKA The YaYa's. They had a tour of the Photo Studio and did some shopping at the Candy Store. We then had lunch at Babe's Restaurant so they could experience downtown Lakeville with the locals.
We had our biggest day of the year yesterday at the candy store. Many Thanks to our employee, Rebekkah. She does an awesome job! We decided to open the store today for the Valentine's Day shoppers. Come down and check out the store!

Musings Of A Small Business Owner
Greetings Everyone. I hope you are having a great weekend. When I left the house this morning it was 5 degrees. Pretty average for February in Minnesota but it felt really cold compared to the warm temperatures we have enjoyed this winter. It is supposed to start warming up tomorrow. For that I am thankfull.
My YaYa's (Hight School Friends) are coming to see the store and the studios today. We are going to go out for lunch. I am really looking forward to seeing them.
A big Thank You to our employee Rebekka. She will be manning the store for me. Another thing I am very thankful for. It could be a busy day for her with Valentine's Day coming up.

TGIF everyone. Today Minnesota woke up to winds and single digit temperatures. It was quite a shock compared to almost 40 degrees yesterday. Fortunately it will be warming up in a few days. The sun it out which makes it easier to take. I am really missing Arizona today!
The men are coming in the candy store to buy their Valentine gifts. They are so happy when you have the gift boxes for them. We got a big order of our handmade candy from our friends at Cripple Creek Candy Co yesterday so we are all set for Valentine's Day. I love a holiday that is devoted to Love.

Having some headaches booking a cruise for some clients of mine who live in Australia. The cruise line is trying to tell me they have to book with an Australian travel agency which makes no sense to me. I am going to have to work my way up the chain of command until someone sees things my way.

Sorry I did not have time to post yesterday. It was one of those days yesterday. Trying to run 2 businesses is provig to be quite a challenge.
The bright spot in my day was a friend of mine from High School stopped in to see our candy store. It was such a delight to see her. She loved our Sea Salt Caramels and gave us a good review on our Miracoles Candy Shoppe Facebook page.

My name is Becky McGuire. This is my first blog. I will be sharing my life as well as photography and travel tips and tricks.
My husband, Tim and I have 6 grown children and 14 grandchildren so there is never a dull moment in our family.
I am a independent Travel Consultant specializing in Vacation Travel. I started in the Travel Industry in 1990. Working in the Travel Industry has allowed me to travel to many different countries. I have been to Australia, New Zealand, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Ireland, Great Britain, France, Spain, Monaco, Italy, Turkey, Croatia, Greece, Mexico, Jamaica, Aruba, Grand Cayman, San Juan, St. Thomas, Curacao, Barbados and Margarita Island. Whew!
I have been fortunate to be able to see a lot of the United States as well. I still have many places left on my "Bucket List". One of my favorite place in the US is Washington, DC. It is a fascinating city.
My husband bought a Motorhome in 2009 and we have been travel around the country and meeting some great people. I am not a "Camping Person" but I have been trying to be a good sport about it. I must admit it is a lot more fun to go with other people. Motorhoming (is that a word?) has provided me with a lot of Photo Ops which has been fun.
I am the co owner of Miracole's Candy Shoppe in Downtown Lakeville, MN. I must admit that I never thought I would own a Candy Store but it has been a lot of fun. We bought the store in August of 2011 and have transformed it into an old time candy store. We have wonderful hand made candies as well as many of the vintage candy brands. My newest venture is a Photo Studio rental facility in Downtown Lakeville, MN. We opened in Janary of 2012 and I have been working hard on marketing. This was an idea inspired by a rental space we had empty and my love of photography. It is called Inside The Frame Studios. We offer Photo Studio Rentals to Amateurs as well as Professional Photographers. I am working on offering Photography Classes as well.
